Forty years after its initial French original publication, Albert Uderzo has given the Asterix at the Olympic Games album a brand new cover. To mark the release of the Asterix at the Olympic Games live action movie in cinemas worldwide from 30 January 2008, a limited edition of 100,000 copies of the original French edition of this classic from the comic book world will appear in all the best Gaulish shops on 16 January.
The 1968 original cover design reflected the triumph of our heroes, showing a beaming Asterix enthroned on the highest podium.
In the year 2008 AD, Albert Uderzo highlights just how the Gaulish triumph over the supposedly invincible Romans also represents a stinging defeat for their leader Julius Caesar: the victor's laurels awarded to Asterix on the podium are none other than those belonging to Caesar!
It's a subtle tribute by the Asterix illustrator to the Julius Caesar interpreted on screen with great pomp by Alain Delon in the film based on the album.
This page will also reveal the various international versions of the brand new cover as they are released in 2008.
